The Christ Church concert, held in December 2014, was a huge success. Many thanks to all those who attended and supported our fundraising efforts.
We are grateful to all the performers who contributed their outstanding talents to such an enjoyable evening: the words of local poets Janette Innis, Greta Hedley, Abe Gibson and Patricia Young made us laugh out loud – or pause in quiet reflection. We applauded the outstanding ability of two young musicians, Nathan on the clarinet and Daria on the saxophone. The glorious music performed by the TCC and First Light choirs, as well as soloists Ben Edwards (a favourite at Christ Church) Lazarus, Pametta Shakes and Jacqueline Braithwaite evoked strong emotional responses, as did ‘Eye on the Sparrow’ performed by Christ Church’s Genievive Pelham. Well done, Genievive, we want to hear your voice more often in the future. The concert ended with a rousing rendition by the Christ Church choir of ‘We want to see Jesus lifted high’, which we dedicated to Doreen Davis, a longstanding member of Christ Church who had, sadly, died the previous week.
The Mayor of Haringey attended, and clearly enjoyed herself. We were pleased to welcome her to the first of what we hope will be many visits to Christ Church.
Thanks go to Mrs Mel Howard, the concert coordinator, to the hardworking members of the Events and Fundraising Committee, to Yvonne Howard, our emcee, whose impeccable timing ensured that the performances ran to schedule, and to Norman Howard for taking the photographs, which will be posted very soon. For those of you who were unable to attend this time, the images from the evening will show you what you missed!
