Bulletin for the Sunday Next before Lent 14. 2. 2021

Message from your Parish Priest
Today’s Gospel reading is on the Transfiguration. Pure light has the effect of making us aware of the things which distance us from God and from each other. We realise that God’s standards are so different from ours. It is the sight of the holiness of God which challenges everything of the old life and consumes it in the blazing fire of God’s light. In our strength we cannot do what is right, but we can trust in God’s power. We learn compassion, kindness, gentleness, and self-importance melts away when we touch the altar of God. Jesus’ blood shed on the cross provides complete cleansing from all kinds of things which separate us from God. In these difficult days we need the holiness of God to be released in people’s life – so there is life and hope in our community – a sense of awe and wonder and that with God nothing is impossible.
Please keep Christ Church family in your prayers especially Bev’s Sister Patricia, her cousin Jean & Jean’s husband Richard both in hospital, also Pearl’s husband Mitford. We pray for those who are mourning the loss of loved ones at this difficult time, especially Bev’s family.
The on-line services will continue in this lockdown as we pray for each other and keep that sense of togetherness. Each day we have Morning Prayer at 9am and Evening Prayer 7.30pm; ecumenical prayers are at 7.30pm on Thursdays and 8.15 am on Fridays now by zoom, since the church is closed. We will be live streaming the Ash Wednesday Service at 2pm.

The Lent book chosen by you for 2021 is ROOTED in LOVE ‘Lent reflections on life in Christ.’ Bishop Sarah Mullally edited the book and each chapter is written by one of our Bishops (including Bishop Rob Wickham). We meet again this Saturday 20th Feb at 12 noon, for the talk and chat with a cup of coffee or soup. This will be a time for us to get together and talk about the things that are on our minds. Almighty God,
whose Son was revealed in majesty
before He suffered death upon the cross:
give us grace to perceive His glory,
that we may be strengthened to suffer with Him
and be changed into His likeness, from glory to glory
who is alive and reigns with you
In the unity of the Holy Spirit
One God, now and forever.
