Christ Church Vision: Bringing Jesus into the heart of the Community

Bulletin for the First Sunday of Lent 21. 2. 2021

Message from your Parish Priest
Today we begin the season of Lent, committing the next six weeks to preparing ourselves for the our Lord’s Resurrection by looking seriously at the implications of turning to God at our baptism. It is appropriate to start at the point of Jesus’ baptism, filling Him with God’s Holy Spirit and moving Him towards a six-week fast in the desert.
Jesus’ ministry did not begin with warm glowing feelings but rigorous self-discipline, painful soul-searching and cost-counting. When Jesus later spoke about our need to count the cost of discipleship He was talking from personal experience. Committing ourselves whole-heartedly to God’s service is indeed a costly business. Are we really willing to say, ‘Thy will be done, Thy Kingdom come?’
Our Lent conversations for 2021 are based on the book ROOTED in LOVE ‘Lent reflections on life in Christ.’ Bishop Sarah Mullally edited the book and each chapter is written by one of our Bishops (including Bishop Rob Wickham). We meet again this Saturday 20th Feb at 12 noon, for the talk and chat with a cup of coffee or soup. This will be a time for us to get together and talk about the things that are on our minds.

Please keep Christ Church family in your prayers that they know God’s healing touch especially Bev’s Sister Patricia, her cousin Jean & Jean’s husband Richard both in hospital, also Pearl’s husband Mitford, and Pauline’s dad Stephen. We pray for those who are mourning the loss of loved ones at this difficult time, especially Bev’s family.
The on-line services will continue in this lockdown as we pray for each other and keep that sense of togetherness. Each day we have Morning Prayer at 9am and Evening Prayer 7.30pm; ecumenical prayers are at 7.30pm on Thursdays and 8.15 am on Fridays now by zoom, since the church is closed. There will be PCC Meeting via zoom on Thursday 25th Feb at 3pm.
Have a Blessed week

Almighty God,
whose Son was revealed in majesty
before He suffered death upon the cross:
give us grace to perceive His glory,
that we may be strengthened to suffer with Him
and be changed into His likeness, from glory to glory
who is alive and reigns with you
In the unity of the Holy Spirit
One God, now and forever. Amen
