Bulletin for Day of Pentecost 23. 5. 2021

Christ Church Vision: Bringing Jesus into the heart of the Community

In today’s Gospel reading Jesus said “As the Father has sent me, I am sending you.” After the crucifixion of Jesus the disciples were a bunch of frightened people, but now in the book of Acts even through suffering and in the face of death they take every opportunity to tell of their crucified and risen Lord. But the church did not grow by its own power or enthusiasm. This happened because the disciples were empowered by the Holy Spirit. Pentecost is the day we celebrate the coming of the Spirit and the birth of the Church. When Jesus touches our life we are changed people. People spend all their lives looking for status—there’s no higher status than being a son or a daughter of God. God is our ‘Abba Father’ but He is also holy and powerful and through the Holy Spirit we have access into the throne room heaven. Jesus said “As the Father has sent me, I am sending you.”
Each day we have Morning Prayer at 9am and Evening Prayer 7.30pm; ecumenical prayers are at 7.30pm on Thursdays and 8.00 am on Fridays with social distancing at Christ Church. Let us continue to remember all those who mourn loved ones. especially Bev, Corinth and her son Jermayne, pray too for Dainey, Pauline and their families. Heavenly Father, let them experience your comfort and peace at this difficult time. We know you are the resurrection and the life and thank you that your presence will enfold all those who mourn.
The church is open for prayers. Please also keep in your prayers Bev’s cousin Richard, also Pearl’s husband Mitford, Edna, Ena, Rose, Mel, Marvia, Althea, Jade, Genievive, Vera and Lucy Linton that they may all know God’s healing presence.

Collect for the Day of Pentecost 23.5.2021
God, who as at this time
Taught the hearts of your faithful people,
By sending them the light of your Holy Spirit
Grant us by the same Spirit
To have the right judgement in all things
And evermore to rejoice in His holy comfort
Through the merits of Jesus Christ our Saviour
Who is alive and reigns with you,
in the unity of the Holy Spirit
One God, now and forever. AMEN
